Cup Final match report 18th May
Oswald Rd 4
Wilmslow Colts 1
A score line that doesn't reflect the cup final on Sunday morning at
Trafford FC. There was a huge turn out to cheer the boys on for one last
time which spurred them on and the fans weren't let down as the Colts
gave a superb performance but they couldn't overcome a very good Oswald
side.
The first 15 mins was fairly even as Colts matched them in the midfield
with Callum Mckew putting himself about well, Max & James were getting
free down the wings and Ross was closing the defenders down well. Callum
Pickerill & Ali were confident at the back & Todd didn't have much to do
in net as it ended 0-0.
A couple of changes for the second half and the game started to open
up, Colts were looking for the breakthrough but it was Oswald who took
the lead. Adam Leigh was getting stuck in and Callum Pickerill pushed
forward down the right. Sam Troupe was calm at the back clearing well.
Joe Saks was quickly into his stride and showing his tricks down the
left and went close to scoring. Ross was then denied by an excellent
save as he broke through but Oswald managed to extend the lead again to
2-0 late on.
Colts were playing well and still confident as the final 15 minutes
began, Oswald started getting nervy as they were pegged back into their
own half. Adam Leigh created a chance that was well saved but it was
Callum Mckew who found the net to make it 2-1 and give the players &
travelling army some hope. James was unlucky when a well hit longer
range effort was blocked. Colts kept pushing forward and refused to give
up but with a few minutes remaning Oswald broke through and made it 3-1.
Max was in net and pulled off a contender for save of the season when he
managed to clear one off the line but couldn't keep out a great finish
to make it 4-1 at the end.
Oswald have been the best team in the league this season but
acknowledged how good the Colts are and how hard it is to beat us.
To achieve runners up & promotion in the league aswell as a cup final
appearance in the squads debut season has been a fantastic achievement.
All the players have contributed to the success and given 110% in every
game, the fans have played a massive part towards that aswell which has
been greatly appreciated.
Oswald Rd manager voted the Colts man of the match was Joe Saks who got
an extra trophy to keep.
The managers Man of the Match went to Max Forde-Dunlope for an
excellent all round game including 'save of the season'
